They have a great drummer, and a great drummer will make any funk/rock/jazz band sound good. Morphine is made up of a drummer, a baritone sax player, and a slide bassist -- now THAT's original! Galactic is an ordinary party/funk band; good but hardly worthy of a mention, much less a comparison to Morphine. As you say, Galactic sounds like "any number of drum/bass/organ-centric groups" and the fact that the highlights you cite were mostly cover songs (Zeppelin and Hendrix) supports this. You can do better than Galactic, Bob, but you'd be hard-pressed to come up with a better name than "Stickylips McGee"! ;-) Galactic is not original, Bob.
