Today in our Best of 2007 list series we have our collection of miscellaneous categories. A ‘best of’ list can only say so much, here we try to praise bands that may have not made the list. To that end there may be a good reason why an album didn’t make the list and we didn’t want to leave them out on the fun either. We also have albums that we enjoyed in 2007 but can’t be on the list since they were not released in 2007. Lastly, we have the best video of 2007. Look out for our best albums of 2007 list in the coming days.
Most Overlooked/Underrated:
Prizhorn Dance School / Prizhorn Dance School - Definitely an acquired taste, the stark minimalism of PDS’s debut album is faintly sinister, in a really good way.
Antelope / Reflector - Pitchfork got it wrong. I wasn’t kidding when I said “that is a pleasant departure from the current trend of orchestral-ish rock bands.”
Pela / Anytown Graffiti - Seems that this album met the mark but few noticed.
Most Overrated:
Panda Bear / Person Pitch - No doubt a good album and Panda Bear’s best work to date, but not as good as some might lead you to believe.
Blonde Redhead / 23 - Some good tracks but lacks the quantity of quality that other some other albums of 2007 had. Plus they are just a bunch of wankers.
Best Finds of 2007:
Talkdemonic / Beat Romantic
Atlas Strategic / Rapture, Ye Minions!
Midlake / Trials of Van Occupanther
Yukon / Mortar
Best Video:
Justice / D.A.N.C.E.

One video, and you pick that one? I’m totally fucking underwhelmed.
Gotta agree on the Midlake though, it’s a grower.
I didn’t see to many good videos apparently.
I thought it was inventive and worked with the song well. The only other one that I can think of that would have made the top spot was Grizzly Bear’s video for Knife. Both are good, Justice was more fun and less creepy.

Just three of the videos I thought were better, I’m sure I could find more.
Nice, I think I have seen the UNKLE one before, it’s cool.
i noticed pela…great record!
its on my top ten list for this year, absolutely.
their live show is really something awesome.
cheers!
Pela is great, hopefully they tour near St Louis.
Much agreed. When I saw Panda Bear as one of the top albums on this one site, I was slightly drawn in. Overall it was too droney and I gave it a couple of listens but I was never really inspired.
Blonde Redhead on the other hand I liked. It took me more than one listen in order to let it grow, I just think that Blonde Redhead could never be underated.
