As far as list go I guess this is as good as any. I have a few of the titles, have heard others I would never own, and some, well it ain’t going to happen. I figure the audience for this stuff is 17 - 35 year old single white males since most of the albums listed are solitary experiences. A little light on the party down. My vote goes to Burial - Untrue sounding like nothing else and eschewing commercial fanfare like the black plague. At least that wanker from Michigan isn’t on here. The one who thought he would do an album on every state. Just wait until he gets down to the deep south. I predict a Sweet Home Alabama escort to the state line. Try the Murcof - Cosmos, Vladislav Delay - Whistleblower, Uusitalo - Karhunainen, Stars of the Lid - And Their Refinement of the Decline, Studio - West Coast, anything on the 12K label, ditto w/kranky label - Cloudland Canyon, Lichens, Strategy, Deerhunter, White Rainbow, the Touch label, the Monolake reissues, Blonde Redhead - 23. The final breakup of New Order (thank god). Pick Lawrence, Tim Hecker, Taylor Duepree, Ricardo Villalobos, and Henrik Schwarz as the hardest working musicians, unequalled best output vs. quality results and there you have 25 great leads. Go discover someone no one told you about. Good luck. It’s still a big world full of mystery. Be original.
Of course New Moon by Elliott Smith, Era Vulgaris by Queens Of The Stone Age aren’t on here. Drag.
Blonde Redhead is good but overrated. Check out http://www.musicsucks.net/2007/12/03/most-overlooked-overrated-and-best-finds-and-video-of-2007/
QOTSA have been pretty good in the past but I didn’t get a chance to listen to their new record.
You might want to check the album title of what is supposedly your second favorite album of the year…
Oops, I fixed the typo. Thanks.
The new dinosaur jr record was also pretty good. The all music guide gave it 4.5 stars out of 5. Nine inch nails the year zero is also a very good record also rated at 4.5 by amg. I would definately add these 2 to the list.
Have any of you heard Colors by Between the Buried and Me? easily the best cd of 2007 and their live show for the cd is playing the whole cd from beginning to end(as the cd is 8 tracks but 1 song).
I have heard of them but haven’t checked out their record.
